Being in the private spy business is interesting. We get to see all kinds of information, statistics and herd behaviors.
We get to see who’s doing what in the political thought circles, who’s positioning for the next acquisition in the business world and what the consumers of the world are worrying about today.
Last year (2009), people were concerned about losing control. Finances, government regulation, the general political environment, freedom, you name it – they were feeling like they were losing control of it.
The first half of 2010, we’ve been watching a trend of people living in denial. In mind-control circles, avoidance and denial are two very common tactics used to justify ignorance and promote non-action. The more common term is “Scared Stupid”.
This month (June) is beginning to show a new trend emerging. We’re calling it the “image crisis.” Across our many websites, people are searching for things that promote their image (over things that actually solve problems). They want to be respected, held in authority and feel like they are part of a powerful, elite crowd.
I know, this isn’t something uncommon, but it is the first time in over 24 months that it is trending as a strong emotional driver in people’s searching and buying activities. If you are engaged in any kind of business, that fact should interest you.
People want to know how you are going to make them respected, envied, more powerful, and viewed as having a large crowd of friends who are also abundantly viewed as having those things.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking that anyone out there is actually searching for training or real tools that will make them smarter, more skilled or able to attract a large crowd through their own actual talents – they want a “done for you” solution.
That is a second trend this year: The “Done for you” product. No one wants to work for success – they want it delivered – just like Chinese food and Pizza.
That opens another opportunity for those who are paying attention here.
So, if you have products or services that create instant celebrity or niche power players – without the customer having to do anything more than make a single purchase (must also be a simple online credit card transaction – don’t make them call you or fill out any forms) then you will make a killing in this trend.
